Tennessee QB commit Brian Maurer didn’t enter the Elite 11 Camp as one of the highly touted prospects, but now that the camp is over, he’s generating more buzz.

Maurer, a Florida native, had a great performance at the camp, finishing fifth among the 12 quarterbacks who attended the camp.

Joey Roberts, the Elite 11 Camp’s director of scouting, recently joined Bruce Feldman on “The Audible” podcast and said Maurer was perhaps the biggest surprise of the event (quotes via RockyTopInsider.com):

“A guy that came in a little lower on all our composites was Brian Maurer,” Roberts said. “And he climbed. He climbed because he showed he was extremely coachable, he showed he can buy in and take his 6-3 and a half frame and, with a compact delivery with his ability to throw on and off platform, really make some difficult things look easy.

“He probably made the biggest jump if I were to look at where he was in Orlando at the Orlando regional to the finals and ultimately to The Opening.”

Maurer’s 247Sports composite ranking has yet to be updated, but prior to the Elite 11 Camp, he was rated the No. 18 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2019 and the No. 62 overall recruit from the state of Florida.

The Vols landed Maurer over Ohio State, Texas A&M, Florida, West Virginia and other big-name programs.
