Mykelle McDaniel is officially a Tennessee Volunteer.

McDaniel (6-foot-4, 240 pounds), a 3-star strong-side defensive end and the No. 23 player at his position from the 2016 recruiting class, can finally take a sigh of relief after months of uncertainty due to academic shortcomings that have prevented him from signing with a team up until this point.

On Friday afternoon, he signed with UT:

The road to becoming a Vol is as perplexing as it is complicated. Just two weeks ago, McDaniel — a one-time South Carolina commit — told TheState.com will confidence that he “will be going to USC” and that coach Will Muschamp had been reserving a scholarship offer for him specifically.

“I have always loved the Gamecocks and I really think that’s the place for me,” he said last November.

McDaniel is a solid late addition for Tennessee. The Loganville, GA product compiled 100 tackles as a senior in 2015 and held 31 offers in total from many elite programs, such as Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida State, and others.
