The Tennessee Volunteers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are close to reaching an agreement to play in the 2017 Chick-fil-A Kickoff game.

Georgia Tech athletic director Mike Bobinski told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he has had positive discussions with Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan about Tech’s participation in the game and is awaiting finalization of terms and the execution of a contract.

The matchup is scheduled to be played on Labor Day Monday evening and will fill the ACC’s exclusive time slot on ESPN.

Tennessee’s last Chick-fil-A Kickoff game appearance resulted in a 35-21 win over NC State in 2012. Georgia Tech has never made an appearance in the kickoff game, which has played annually at the Georgia Dome since 2008, just minutes away from the Tech’s campus.
