As National Signing Day approaches on Feb. 1, football coaches all across the country are feverishly attempting to sell their respective programs.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones is one of these individuals virtually living on the recruiting trails for the next month.

On Tuesday, the hard work paid off — as 2017 defensive end prospect Ryan Thaxton committed to the Volunteers, via his Twitter account.

Thaxton — a 3-star prospect — was previously committed to Virginia. He holds offers from the likes of Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Virginia, North Carolina State, and Rutgers.

He’s scheduled for trips to Oxford and Raleigh in the next two weeks, although it’s unknown whether he will proceed as previously planned.

Thaxton had the following to say to 247Sports about his commitment to Tennessee.

“I mean, it’s just the place I wanted to be at,” said Thaxton. “I really got that feeling. Everybody I talked to said, ‘You will know when you get that feeling,’ and I just had that feeling this weekend.

“As soon I walked into the stadium, I knew this was where I wanted to be.”

Thaxton is ranked the nation’s No. 828 overall prospect and No. 40 strong-side defensive end in the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2017.
