Over the weekend it was announced that Tennessee wide receiver Josh Smith would be out for the first part of the football season with a collarbone injury he sustained in practice.

On Monday, Butch Jones gave an update on the Volunteers’ senior pass-catcher.

“We don’t have any time set for a return because he has not had a CT scan yet,” Jones told the Knoxville media following practice.

“Obviously we’ll miss the experience with Josh,” Jones said. “But we have some individuals that are very, very talented (at wide receiver).”

Smith was scheduled to have the scan Monday afternoon, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

On Sunday, WNML Sports Radio’s Jimmy Hyams reported Smith could miss 4 to 8 weeks.

With no timetable for Smith’s return, Tennessee’s depth at wide receiver could be impacted negatively headed into the season. Smith has started 13 games for the Vols over the past two seasons. He caught 13 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown last year.
