Tennessee will take the field in Nashville for the Music City Bowl without the services of redshirt freshman offensive lineman Venzell Boulware, head coach Butch Jones announced Tuesday after the team’s practice.

Despite having a few solid weeks of preparation on the practice field, Jones said academics will cause Boulware to miss the Dec. 30 bowl game against Nebraska. The academic issue should not affect Boulware’s status for spring football, according to Jones.

Boulware made three starts this season and made appearances in seven games total. The freshman started the last two regular season games of the season for the Vols. As long as he has his grades in order for spring football, expect Boulware to push for the starting role vacated by departing senior Dylan Wiesman.
