If Tennessee ends up signing Ahmir Mitchell, the program may need to add Jarrett Guarantano to the team’s official recruiting staff.

Following the news that Mitchell is headed to Arizona Western Community College, Guarantano gave his fellow New Jersey native a nice shoutout on Twitter recently.

If you are unfamiliar with Mitchell, he was a top 150 overall prospect in the 2016 recruiting class from the Garden State — just like Guarantano. Mitchell signed with Michigan out of high school but returned home within weeks after deciding to transfer to Rutgers. He redshirted his first season at Rutgers, as he was forced to sit out the 2016 season due to transfer rules, but never got his career going as he was dismissed for a violation of team rules in 2017, per NJ.com.

Now as he takes his talents to the junior college level, at Arizona Western, Guarantano has issued his thoughts on a player he clearly still has faith in at the college game’s highest level.

Here’s Guarantano’s reaction to that news:

Not only do the Vols have the Guarantano-New Jersey connection to Mitchell but Arizona Western has become somewhat of a pipeline for talent for Tennessee in recent seasons. Jonathan Kongbo (under Butch Jones’ staff), Jahmir Johnson and Dominick Wood-Anderson (both under Jeremy Pruitt’s staff) all signed with Tennessee from Arizona Western. The JUCO staff clearly has a comfort level with sending players to Knoxville.

When Mitchell came out of high school, he was ranked as a four-star prospect, the No. 9 athlete in the nation and the No. 161 overall prospect in the country according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Check out his high school highlight reel to see if you agree with Guarantano and think Mitchell has a shot at playing in Knoxville someday.
