Tennessee’s 12th spring practice was closed to the media Saturday, but coach Butch Jones invited the Vols’ student body to watch inside Neyland Stadium and expressed his gratitude after a loose, but productive session in Knoxville.

On Student Appreciation Day, the Vols began practice with a spirited ‘Circle of Life’ drill and ended with a friendly competition among quarterbacks and students to see who could hit the crossbar from various distances.

The Vols’ talented running back tandem of Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara, expected to produce sizable numbers in Tennessee’s uptempo scheme this season, have given themselves a new nickname —the CMG, aka the chain-moving gang. Kamara was impressed by the attendance at Saturday’s practice, saying the crowd was much larger than any he played in front of last season during JUCO ball.

Near full-strength following an early-spring bout with mononucleosis, defensive back Emmanuel Moseley had another solid practice after recording a spring-best three interceptions on Thursday. Moseley’s one of several players competing for the Vols’ other cornerback spot alongside Cam Sutton.

Quarterback Joshua Dobbs was asked about Tennessee’s lofty expectations as a preseason Eastern Division contender after practice:

Tennessee’s Orange and White game is scheduled for next Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Neyland Stadium.
