A couple of weeks ago, the Tennessee Volunteers went to South Carolina and beat the Gamecocks 92-70.

With a rematch in Knoxville on Wednesday night, the Vols will be heavily favored to win. However, we’ve seen some crazy upsets in college basketball this year.

On Monday, coach Rick Barnes said he doesn’t expect the Vols to overlook the Gamecocks. In fact, he said, they have too much respect for the Frank Martin-coached squad to be caught off-guard (via RockyTopInsider.com):

“I think our guys have so much respect for South Carolina,” Barnes said during his press conference on Monday. “Any time you are going up against South Carolina, I think you know they are going to play an extremely hard and physical game.

“Everybody knows that. We fully expect it. They compete as hard as anybody you are going to play against.”

The Vols are the No. 1 team in the country and sport an impressive 10-0 record in SEC play. We’ll see if they can avoid an upset on Wednesday night and keep their unblemished record intact heading into Saturday’s showdown against No. 5 Kentucky in Lexington.
