As a former Florida and South Carolina coach, Steve Spurrier has been a thorn in the side of the Tennessee Volunteers for a number of years.

Even though the Head Ball Coach is now with the Orlando Apollos in the new Alliance of American Football, he’s still taking shots at the Vols.

After the Apollos improved to 2-0 with a win over the San Antonio Commanders in Texas on Sunday, Spurrier compared the atmosphere at the Alamodome to that of Neyland Stadium:

“I think it was just as loud as Rocky Top, to tell you the truth,” Spurrier smiles. “And I know The Swamp is a little bit louder than here. Their fans were really into it, they really were. They did a super job for San Antonio.”

Yes, the HBC meant it more as a compliment to San Antonio than an insult to Tennessee fans, but it’s certainly funny that he’d compare a crowd of just under 30,000 people to the 100,000-plus crowds at Neyland.

Here’s hoping Spurrier never changes.
