Jay Cutler to the rescue? That may be the case in Miami after starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill was significantly injured during training camp.

Cutler decided to walk away from potential opportunities to continue his playing career this offseason in order to pursue a career in broadcasting. Soon after making that decision, Cutler was hired by FOX Sports to become an NFL analyst. However, his choice was made before the potential opening in Miami occurred following Tannehill’s injury.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Tannehill could miss the entire season in Miami. Considering Miami is coached by Adam Gase, Cutler’s former offensive coordinator in Chicago, the connection between the two makes sense.

During their time together, Cutler had something of a career renaissance. Gase parleyed that success into becoming a head coach for the first time in the NFL in Miami. Cutler never recovered from Gase’s departure and struggled mightily following the coach’s move to Miami. When asked the team’s next move, the Dolphins coach wasn’t willing to rule out any possibilities.

“Everything is on the table right now,” Gase said, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. “We are going to talk to a lot of people.”

Taking into account his history in Gase’s system, one of those “people” will surely be Cutler. Will Cutler show any interest after walking away from the game earlier this offseason? That remains to be seen.
