Colorado State is becoming an outpost for former SEC players and coaches. Over the weekend, Vanderbilt tight end Mitch Parsons transferred to play for the Rams.

The former three/four-star recruit was one of the biggest signings in former coach James Franklin’s 2013 recruiting class. Parsons, who hails from Parker, Co., redshirted his first year on campus. Under new coach Derek Mason and offensive coordinator Karl Dorrell, Parsons didn’t have any catches and saw very limited playing time in 2014.

At Colorado State, Parsons joins former Alabama running back Dee Hart as an SEC defection. While Hart was able to play immediately, Parsons will have to sit out a year under transfer rules. Jim McElwain, formerly an offensive coordinator at Alabama, recently left the Rams to coach Florida. The school has yet to hire a new head coach.

Vanderbilt’s offense will undergo another set of changes in 2015. Mason fired Dorrell after one season in Nashville that saw the Commodores go 0-8 in SEC play and finish last in the conference in scoring and total offense. Vanderbilt has several other open coaching positions, including defensive coordinator.
