Russell Wilson To Transfer To Auburn?

Russell Wilson Transfering from North Carolina State

With all the concern at Toomer’s Corner about replacing Cam Newton at Auburn, Russell Wilson’s announcement that he’ll transfer from N.C. State to play quarterback somewhere else has definitely turned some heads on The Plains.

Maybe those turned heads are more a product of Joe Schad’s surmising that South Carolina and Auburn might be possible destinations for the kid than anything else.  While Schad did say that some unidentified SEC schools had made contact with Wilson, he didn’t say that he knew which schools they were.  It appears that Schad was just making educated guesses.

Nonetheless, some Auburn folks have taken those guesses and decided that Wilson, who threw for 28 TDs at N.C. State last year, is the heir-apparent to the Newton throne.

Too soon?  Yeah, probably.

I agree with what Kevin Scarbinsky of the Birmingham News wrote about it here (except for the part where he calls Gus Malzahn the best OC in college football – not ready to do that just yet).

Bottom line: If Auburn’s coaches think he’s a fit and he wants to go there, then sign him up.  If not, then make do with what you have.  Either way, leave it up to the coaches – they are the ones who’ll have to answer for it anyway.
