Who Poisoned The Trees On Toomer’s Corner?

If the trees die, what a travesty for college football

You simply cannot make this stuff up. Auburn University says someone deliberately poisoned the Live Oak trees on Toomer’s Corner. Herbicide was applied in “lethal amounts” to the soil. The trees have been around for 130 years, and they could be dying as you sit here and read this.

The Herbicide that was used is known as Spike 80DF, and the EPA and state agricultural laws govern it.

A caller, an Alabama fan, on the Paul Finebaum radio network claimed he had applied the herbicide, and shortly after, the soil was supposedly tested.

Hmmm…I wonder which university could have its hand in this?

If it was Alabama loyalists, and who knows if it was, this rivalry is growing to astronomical levels.

No more TP on the trees at Toomer’s Corner? What a travesty.

“We will take every step we can to save the Toomer’s oaks, which have been the home of countless celebrations and a symbol of the Auburn spirit for generations of Auburn students, fans, alumni and the community,” University President Jay Gogue said in a statement.

President Gogue asked students not to retaliate, though.

What do you think? Is this getting out of control?

Update 9:25 PM: The below video shows the beautiful celebration that takes place at Toomer’s Corner.  Hopefully it continues!
