Touted lineman to transfer from Tennessee

Butch Jones confirmed touted sophomore lineman Jason Carr will transfer from Tennessee. Carr played in three games and made just one tackle last season.

The Memphis native signed with Tennessee as a defensive end, only to be switched to defensive tackle when he set foot on campus. Carr also played some offensive line this spring.

Carr was a part of Jones’ first signing class and was the third highest-rated player the Vols signed in 2013, but he struggled to adjust to the college game. Carr moving to offensive tackle this spring was pretty much the tell-tale sign that he wasn’t developing properly along the defensive line.

Tennessee needs offensive and defensive linemen, but Carr won’t be one of them in 2014.

  • If he was struggling to work himself into the rotation with arguably the weakest D-line in the SEC then he probably wasn’t cut out to play in the SEC. LB & DL are the 2 hardest positions to transition to from high school to college and sometimes highly touted prospects just don’t “pan out.” I wish him the best.

  • This is why star ratings are …. well… over-rated. The young man is …. well….. very young. At 23 he could be a totally different animal than at 17-18-19. Or he may have other challenges that keep him from devoting his life to D1,SEC football, all the best prayers for him.
