Alabama and Florida will battle it out for 4-star linebacker Shemar James.

James announced the Crimson Tide and Gators as his finalists on Sunday morning:

James is a consensus 4-star recruit who hails from Mobile, Alabama. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and attends Faith Academy High School.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, James is the No. 142 overall player and the No. 11 outside linebacker for the class of 2022.

His previous list of considered schools included Florida State, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Texas A&M and Michigan.

Alabama’s 2022 recruiting class is still developing. It’s currently ranked No. 15 nationally according to 247Sports Composite rankings, but the Tide only have six commitments so far. Expect that ranking to improve significantly as the Early Signing Period approaches in December.

Florida’s 2022 class is also behind where the Gators expect to end up at the end of this cycle. 247Sports Composite rankings have Florida ranked No. 24 nationally with just five commitments so far.

Neither program has an outside linebacker committed yet for the 2022 class.
