49ers coach Kyle Shanahan on Reuben Foster’s status: No certainty with any prospect

When it comes to the health of former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan appears to be as uncertain as the general public.
Foster was graded by many services as the most talented player at his position heading into the draft, but a strange combine dismissal, as well as concerns stemming from an offseason shoulder surgery, saw him slide all the way down to the San Francisco at the No. 31 pick.
It appears that the Niners, who reportedly would’ve considered drafting Foster third overall if the Bears had taken Stanford DT Solomon Thomas, may not be out of the woods yet with respect to that injury.
Many sources have reported that Foster’s offseason shoulder surgery wasn’t a success, and now Shanahan is admitting a bit of uncertainty about his availability.
During an interview on KNBR, a radio station in San Francisco, Shanahan said that said the team does not believe that the injury is a long-term concern but couldn’t rule out that it may impact his rookie season.
“You never know who is going to end up being right,” Shanahan said with respect to the number of differing medical opinions about Foster.
Though only time will tell, the team is prepared to be without Foster for however long his rehab takes.
