Former Alabama QB AJ McCarron has spent the first few years of his NFL career backing up Andy Dalton with the Cincinnati Bengals.

This offseason, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills, but then the Bills drafted Wyoming QB Josh Allen in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Now, McCarron finds himself in a quarterback battle for the first time, and with summer minicamp coming up, he’s eager to prove he’s the one who is right for the starting job (via AL.com)

“I’m super excited,” McCarron said. “It’s just a new change. Just trying to get used to it all at OTAs after running the same offense for four years. You might have the same plays, but it’s called different or the read is different. It’s just getting used to it, but I’ve been working with my QB coach, David Morris, at QB Country and going over the offense day in and day out, and I feel really, really good about it.”

McCarron will likely start the season under center for the Bills, but his margin for error got razor-thin when the team drafted Allen.

In 11 career appearances, McCarron has completed 86 of 133 passes for 920 yards and six touchdowns, to go with only two interceptions.
