While Tennessee has hired multiple former Alabama staffers this offseason, the Crimson Tide have turned around and now hired multiple former Volunteer staffers to jobs in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama made tons of headlines with the addition of Butch Jones as an analyst/intern and now have added Bob Welton as director of player personnel. That’s the same role Welton held in Knoxville the previous five seasons under Jones.

“We are excited to add Bob Welton to our staff as the director of player personnel,” Nick Saban said in a prepared statement released by the school. “Bob has a lot of experience in this role and a reputation for being very organized and an excellent talent evaluator. He has worked at all levels of football, serving as an NFL scout, a player personnel director at the college level and a head coach in high school. Bob is a great fit for this role, and we are happy to welcome his wife Laura and their children to the Crimson Tide program.”

Welton also offered up his comments following the official announcement.

“I am very appreciative for the opportunity to work for Coach Saban and the Alabama football program,” Welton offered up in the same statement from Alabama. “Alabama has been the standard for program excellence in college football for a long time. I am excited and humbled to be part of it, and I look forward to doing my part to continue the tradition of success.”

Welton has also briefly served at Nebraska as a director of recruiting operations during his college career and has several years of college scouting experience in the NFL.
