Alabama can tie incredible winning streak with win over Mercer
There’s no denying Alabama has been on an incredible run since Nick Saban arrived.
Since Saban’s first season with the Tide in 2007, Alabama has won four National Titles and made an appearance in the Playoff each of the past three seasons. The Crimson Tide came up just short in their quest for another National Championship last year but have a great shot at making it back to the Playoff.
The next team up for Alabama is Mercer, and the Tide could tie one incredible streak with a win over the Bears. According to ESPN’s Brandon Zimmerman, a win over Mercer would give the Tide 73 straight victories against an unranked opponent.
That would tie the longest streak ever since the AP Poll began:
Alabama will tie the 1990-2000 Florida Gators today for the longest win streak (73) against unranked opponents since the AP Poll debuted in 1936.

The winning streak may be against unranked opponents, but it certainly speaks to the Tide’s ability to avoid the big upset under Saban.
Alabama could tie the record today, but it will likely have to wait until 2018 to break it. The remaining schedule for the Tide features a big-time Iron Bowl matchup with No. 6 Auburn and the SEC Championship Game before heading into bowl season.
