After finishing in third-place in his qualifying heat, junior Alabama defensive back Tony Brown earned the eighth and final spot in the NCAA’s 110-meter hurdles final, which took place on Friday. In the final, Brown ran his fourth-fastest time of the season, clocking in at 13.81 seconds.

With the sixth-place finish overall, Brown finished as an All-American. The only other Crimson Tide to finish as All-Americans in the event are Keith Talley (1985-86)and Ron Bramlett (2000-01-02). Talley and Bramlett both won titles in 1986 and 2002, respectively.

The Crimson Tide’s track and field head coach, Dan Waters, talked about Brown not only as an athlete, but as a competitor, here.

“For a guy who has seen pretty limited action on the track the last two years, Tony Brown really stepped up and showed what a competitor he is,” Waters said. “He’s an impressive talent and he did a great job this season making his way into the final here and earning All-America honors.”

Finishing sixth out of eight competitors can be seen as a failure to some, but when looking at Brown’s finish as a whole, he’s the sixth-fastest collegiate athlete in the country when it comes to hurdles. That’s saying something.

With respect to football, Brown is a former big-time prospect who’s currently facing a NCAA suspension. Alabama is currently appealing the suspension.
