Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks, a recent transfer from LSU, was arrested Sunday afternoon by Mississippi Highway Patrol, according to multiple reports.

Ricks, a former 5-star recruit, was charged with speeding, having no insurance and possession of marijuana (first offense), according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department arrest database, 247Sports reported. Ricks’ sophomore season at LSU ended early because of a shoulder injury that required surgery. Last season, he made one interception to go with one pass breakup in 6 of LSU’s games. He picked off 4 passes last season and is in the mix to be an early-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The California native played at IMG Academy in Florida and was a top-15 prospect nationally as ranked by 247 Sports in 2020. He earned Associated Press third-team All-America honors as a freshman at LSU. Coming out of high school, Ricks was was rated as the nation’s No. 2 overall cornerback and the No. 14 overall prospect in the nation, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Alabama coach Nick Saban said the biggest adjustment for Ricks is learning the system.

“For him to be able to learn the system – and sometimes it’s even more difficult for guys that’s played in a system, aight. So they knew a system, now they’ve gotta sort of enturbulate some of the things that they did to some of the things that we’re doing, and we call it something different,” Saban said.
