The rich get richer as Alabama adds another talented defensive lineman commit to its impressive 2017 recruiting haul Sunday night with the commitment of Fayetteville, Ark., defensive lineman Akial Byers.

Hank South of 247Sports’ Bama Online broke the news Sunday evening. After taking a visit to Ohio State, Byers came away knowing Tuscaloosa was the right fit for him, according to his high school Benji Mahan.

“When we left Ohio State, me and him, I said what do you think and he said Alabama. I say why? He said coach (Karl) Dunbar and coach (Billy) Napier and that was the bottom line,” Fayetteville head coach Mahan told South.

Byers is rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 13 defensive tackle and Arkansas’ No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Ratings. During his junior season, Byers racked up 69 tackles, including 11 for loss and three sacks.

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Byers committed to the Tide over offer from Ole Miss, Missouri, South Carolina, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma among others.
