This weekend, the Third Saturday in October rivalry series between Alabama and Tennessee continues. However, some Crimson Tide players no longer view this matchup as a rivalry game.

Alabama has won 11 straight meetings against Tennessee dating back to 2007. The last time the Vols beat the Crimson Tide was in 2006.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a rivalry, but it’s definitely a big game,” Alabama tackle Jedrick Wills told the media, including AL.com, on Monday. “It’s not equal to Auburn, but it’s still a big game. I wouldn’t consider it a rivalry.”

Crimson Tide linebacker Mack Wilson shared a similar opinion when speaking to the media.

“Traditionally-wise, I feel like they’re both two big games,” Wilson told the media. “As for me, I just look at it like it’s another game, but I know that Auburn is more like the rival game, I feel like.”

Alabama leads the all-time series against Tennessee, 54-38-7. Before the Crimson Tide’s active 11-game win streak against the Vols, the series was much closer.

Despite that recent success — and the opinions of several Alabama players — some members of the Tide still see the matchup as a rivalry.

“I know it’s a big rivalry game,” wide receiver Jerry Jeudy told the media. “A lot of tradition comes into it. I’m just ready to practice and work toward the week, get better and focus on Tennessee.”
