Everyone needs something to talk about in the offseason. Tua Tagovailoa’s outstanding performance in the College Football Playoff championship game made it uncertain which Crimson Tide quarterback would be the starter in the 2018 season. The competition in Tuscaloosa has led to umpteen segments on “The Paul Finebaum Show,” a myriad of articles and countless tweets. Alabama RB Damien Harris had a reminder for everyone: unless your name is Nick Saban, your opinion on the quarterback competition doesn’t matter.

“We’ve all heard the outside opinions and voices on who should play quarterback,” Harris said on “Finebaum.” “None of that matters. We have two players who can play quarterback at an incredibly high level. We have two guys who can be incredible leaders on our team. However it shakes out after that is up to Coach Saban. He’s the head coach and whatever he says is obviously going to be in the best interest of our team.”

While both quarterbacks are competitors, Harris said the way they’ve handled the competition sets an example for the rest of the team.

“One thing I’ve learned between Jalen [Hurts] and Tua is their relationship,” Harris said. “You would think in a situation like this there would be some sort of divide, but all I’ve noticed is that it’s brought them close together. It’s made them stronger competitors. Every time I see Jalen, I see Tua right beside him. They’re pushing each other to be better players. That’s so admirable for the rest of the team.”

While Saban did not name the starting quarterback at SEC Media Days, he did tell ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM what he’s looking for from QB1.
