Barely more than four months after a gruesome leg injury ended his 2014 season, Alabama running back Kenyan Drake is back on the field.

He posted a video of himself doing conditioning drills on his Instagram account on Friday afternoon.

Ain’t this what they’ve been waiting for? You ready? #sneakpeek

Drake’s foot pointed at a gut-wrenching angle after a first-half play against Ole Miss on Oct. 4, in full view of the CBS cameras.

“Obviously, your foot isn’t supposed to be sideways like that,” Drake told AL.com. “So I kind of went into shock and the trainers came out there and took real good care of me, put it back in place and after that I didn’t really feel it anymore.”

The senior-to-be should be ready to participate in spring practice next month, though Alabama hasn’t yet announced the dates. That’s terrific news for Drake, who later in the season was roaming the sideline with assistance from a cart (holding a box of Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies, presumably in case coach Nick Saban got hungry during the game).

Drake should be an important part of the Tide offense in 2015. He averages 7.0 yards per carry for his career and a remarkable 17.3 yards per catch. That’s a figure one would expect from a big-play receiver. In other words, when healthy, Drake is electric in the screen game.

It’s nice to see physical evidence of Drake moving well in shorts on a football field, but it will be even better for Alabama when he touches the ball in a live game. With T.J. Yeldon, Amari Cooper and DeAndrew White moving on, though, Drake’s return is a huge help to the 2015 team.
