Lost by some in the aftermath of Tua Tagovailoa’s amazing overtime throw on 2nd and 26, a missed field goal nearly cost Alabama the national championship.

Leaving no stone unturned, Nick Saban is looking to avoid a similar situation in the future. While Alabama does return a high school All-American kicker in 2018, the Crimson Tide may also add a veteran kicker to the roster this offseason.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Temple graduate transfer kicker Austin Jones is exploring the option of joining Alabama’s program. After struggling as a freshman for Temple, Jones hit 37 of 45 field goals over the next three seasons. He has one final year of eligibility remaining in college.

Whether Jones ends up in Tuscaloosa or not, Alabama did sign U.S. Army All-American kicker Joseph Bulovas in its 2017 recruiting class. So either way, there’s big-time potential on the roster for an elite kicker to emerge in 2018 in the hopes of replacing Andy Pappanastos.
