Alabama running back Damien Harris’ recruitment came down to Kentucky and Alabama.

The five-star from Berea, Ky., seemed to give strong consideration to his home-state Wildcats. Many UK faithful vacillated between cautious optimism and holding onto hope.

But when Harris announced his decision, he put on a Crimson Tide hat.

Now Kentucky (5-7) will be sitting at home yet again this holiday season, while Alabama (12-1) prepares for the College Football Playoff.

Since his decision, I’m sure Harris has heard from dozens, maybe hundreds, of Kentuckians, especially via social media, and not all kind. The true freshman probably has a right to gloat: If the goal was to play for a more successful football program, he made the right choice.

Still, there are a few from the Bluegrass State calling an unnecessary roughness penalty on Harris right now.

Just for reference, Harris has 49 touches for 168 yards and one touchdown. Even with Kenyan Drake banged up, the team has chosen to feed Derrick Henry more than 40 times per game rather than give Harris significant touches.

Then again, it’s hard to blame a kid for celebrating a special title. Kudos to him for realizing that Alabama isn’t going to win the SEC title game every single year. Harris also helped block a punt early against Florida.

“Why didn’t you go to …….” This is why. Roll Tide.
