Alabama will have to wait and see if it will get an invitation to the College Football Playoff without an SEC Championship on its resume.

The Crimson Tide did put together a strong season. The team finished 11-1 and dominated the No. 1 spot in the AP Poll for much of this year. Unfortunately, the Tide dropped the last game of the season to Auburn and will miss out on the SEC Championship Game as a result.

The Tide are currently ranked No. 5 in the Playoff rankings and could find themselves on the outside looking in at the final four. However, a loss from a team in the top four could give Alabama a shot at making the Playoff despite not winning the SEC Championship.

On Friday, Paul Finebaum asked SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey about Alabama’s resume without a conference championship. While not having a conference title does hurt Alabama’s chances, Sankey believes the focus is still on getting the four best teams in the Playoff. With that in mind, he sees an Alabama team with a strong resume from its work in the regular season.

Sankey made his comments on The Paul Finebaum Show:

“The expectation is that the four best teams are selected to play in the Playoff,” said Sankey. “You look particularly at Alabama, they’ve defeated seven, top 25 teams, they’ve lost a game on the road to what is now the No. 2 team in the nation. When you compare other losses, those losses seem much different…There’s a lot of responsibility on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee
for properly evaluating and determining who might those four best teams be.”

Alabama may have a strong resume, but the Crimson Till will have to wait and see if the committee will give them an opportunity to play in the Playoff.
