The Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. central/2:00 p.m. eastern in Lexington, Kentucky. According to Big Blue History, Kentucky leads the all-time series against Alabama, 110-37.

Alabama comes into the Kentucky game on a two-game winning streak (and won three of last four). The Tide beat LSU by a score of 80-65 on Tuesday evening. Alabama’s Donta Hall registered 20 points and 8 rebounds in the game. Collin Sexton also added 15 points on 22 minutes of play.

Of more of a national note, the Kentucky Wildcats enter the Alabama game on a four-game losing streak, the worst such skid of this season and certainly something we’re not used to hearing during the Calipari era in Lexington. The Cats lost this week to Auburn by a score of 76-66. Kentucky freshman Kevin Knox scored 19 in the loss to Auburn.

Alabama vs. Kentucky

For the Tide, the game has major significance. A win at Kentucky likely means that Alabama is ranked next week. If that happens, it will likely be the first time the basketball version of the Iron Bowl features both a ranked Alabama squad and a ranked Auburn team since 1987. Who knew the state of Alabama was also a basketball state? In 2018, it is. Alabama and Auburn will square off next Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. eastern.

Currently, head coach Avery Johnson has the Crimson Tide at 17-9 record, 8-5 in the SEC. Most importantly, many think that Alabama is tournament-bound. Victories against Kentucky (and possibly Auburn) would certainly cement the Tide’s case for the dance in March.

Meanwhile, Kentucky’s struggles have many wondering if they’ll even make the tournament this season. For a program and fanbase used to always competing for national titles, missing the dance would be quite the shock in the weeks ahead.

Kentucky currently sits with a 17-9 record with a very concerning 6-7 SEC record. Freshman sensation Kevin Knox (from Tampa, FL) leads the Cats this season with 15.2 points per game. His 5.5 rebounds per game is also quite impressive, just shy of team leader Jarred Vanderbilt’s 6.7 rebounds per game.
