TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Trying to chose a player of the game for the University of Alabama’s 20-13 victory over LSU on Saturday was anything but an easy task.

Junior wide receiver Amari Cooper set season and career records, but had three dropped passes. Junior running back T.J. Yeldon was the leading rusher, yet had the fumble. Senior wide receiver DeAndrew White had two key catches including the game-winning touchdown while finishing with three receptions.

Even the coaching staff recognized half of the defensive starters while naming 10 overall as their players of the week: Arie Kouandjio and White on offense, with Landon Collins, Brandon Ivory, Cyrus Jones, Nick Perry and Reggie Ragland on defense, and Reuben Foster, Adam Griffith and Cole Maaza on special teams.

However, Sims doesn’t want senior wide receiver Christion Jones to be overlooked for making the 22-yard sliding reception on third-and-4 to get Alabama into field-goal range on its final possession of regulation.

“Christion Jones is an amazing player,” Sims said. “He makes great plays, and what people don’t notice is that in that past game against LSU, he made the biggest play of the whole day.

“If he didn’t make that play, we wouldn’t be able to go down, Adam Griffith wouldn’t be able to hit the field goal or DeAndrew White be able to make the great catch at the end.”

Coach Nick Saban called it a “difficult catch and a big catch,” in addition to demonstrating that the offense needs to get him the ball more often.

Jones finished with three receptions for 38 yards, but that was the first time in the game that Sims completed a pass longer than 11 yards downfield. He was 0 for 13 before that point.

“Blake, cool, calm and collected, man,” White said about the game-tying drive when Alabama 55 yards in 47 seconds. “Blake showed his poise out there and I’m very proud of him for that.”
