Former Alabama DBs Anthony Averett and Marlon Humphrey are teaming up with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens drafted Averett in the fourth round last weekend, and now, he’ll get to play alongside his old “locker buddy” Humphrey. Humphrey, of course, was a first-round pick for the Ravens in the 2017 NFL Draft. Averett and Humphrey were Alabama’s starting CBs in 2016. Ironically, Alabama won the national championship the year before and the year after the duo held down Alabama’s secondary, but nonetheless, they’re excited to be together again.

“It’s just going to be like old times,” Averett said, via Baltimore Ravens. “That’s what they were teasing me about once they drafted me – talking about Marlon – like, ‘Are you still faster than him?’ and stuff like that. Me and him – we’re going to be happy playing both sides. We’re going to see what happens. We’re just going to give our best effort and show what time it is.”

Nick Saban has put players in the NFL at an astounding rate over the last several years, and Averett is one of the quieter ones, although he’s very talented and should make a big impact.

Ravens’ GM Ozzie Newsome, an Alabama great himself, commented on drafting Averett, too.

“When we took Anthony, he was the highest rated on the board at the time,” Newsome said. “Every year we go into an NFL season, and you don’t ever have too many corners. Anthony is a guy that started 25 games at Alabama, and I think he’ll come in and compete and add depth.”

It’ll be fun to watch this secondary in the near future.
