Oh, the irony.

Just over a year after Blake Barnett transferred from Alabama to Arizona State to not wait behind Jalen Hurts, the ex-Crimson Tide quarterback is reportedly on the move again.

According to azcentral.com, Barnett will transfer from Arizona State. He plans on graduating from ASU this summer, which would make him eligible to play immediately in 2018. He’ll have two seasons of eligibility left.

According to Bruce Feldman, he’ll take an official visit to South Florida this weekend:

The former Alabama starter left Tuscaloosa after Hurts took over at the start of 2016, but things didn’t get any better for him in Tempe. Barnett only attempted 5 passes in his lone season of action as ASU’s backup in 2017.

Both the head coach and offensive coordinator (Chip Lindsey) who brought Barnett to ASU are gone. As a result, new ASU coach Herm Edwards declared that Barnett was competing for the backup job out of camp.

Could a reunion be in the cards?

Certainly Alabama is in the market for a grad transfer quarterback. With Tua Tagovailoa injured in spring camp and Hurts reportedly considering transferring if he’s not named the starter (according to his father), the Tide are thin as it is with only three scholarship quarterbacks on the 2018 roster.

Perhaps Saban will return to the former 5-star recruit to add some depth.
