After garnering first-round NFL Draft hype throughout his Alabama career, Mack Wilson fell all the way to the fifth round before the Cleveland Browns scooped him up. The Browns drafted Wilson with the No. 155 pick overall.

Throughout Browns training camp, Wilson shined. Multiple highlights emerged that showed Wilson making plays and INTs. That carried over into games, too, as Wilson recorded two INTs during his very first preseason game against the Redskins, including an impressive pick-six.

Wilson has done nothing but turn heads when the lights have come on. Cleveland knew it was getting a linebacker who could cover in space, but Wilson can be much more than that. Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens knows that, too.

“I think he’s getting better,” Cleveland coach Freddie Kitchens said during his a preseason press conference. “He’s not there yet, and I would think he would be the first to tell you he’s not there yet. I want him to keep getting better in all areas. He’s a good cover guy. That’s why he’s here — or one of the reasons he’s here. Then I expect him to be able to stop the run, too. At that position, you kind of have to be a jack of all trades, and that’s what we want our linebackers doing.”

For his preseason efforts, Wilson has won the 2019 Maurice Bassett Award winner, which is given annually to the most outstanding rookie in training camp as voted on by the media.

Something tells us this is the first of many awards for Wilson.
