As Steve Sarkisian continues to build his staff at Texas, one soon-to-be former Alabama assistant is in for a big pay boost.

Special teams coach Jeff Banks’ contract breakdown: Year 1, $1 million; Year 2, $1.05 million; Year 3, $1.1 million, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reported. Dodd added that Banks is believed to be the first $1 million-a-year special teams coach. Banks was paid $750,000 annually at Alabama.

Before Alabama, Banks spent the previous five years in the same role at Texas A&M under Kevin Sumlin

Alabama K Will Reichard, a Lou Groza Award finalist, made all 14 of his field goals, and was fifth nationally in scoring with 126 points. Alabama was ninth nationally in punt returns.

Before he got to A&M in 2013, Banks had a brief stint as as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator at Virginia after he coached running backs and coordinated special teams for nine years at UTEP (2004-12). He also coached at Idaho State, and got his start as a graduate assistant at Washington State.
