The day after the completion of the NFL regular season is known as Black Monday for all the coach firings. The Cleveland Browns did not wait until Monday: Freddie Kitchens has been fired.

The former Alabama quarterback was 6-10 in his only season with the Browns. Kitchens’ two decades of coaching experience includes stops at LSU (2000, graduate assistant) and Mississippi State (2004-05, tight ends coach and running backs coach). His first NFL coaching gig came with the Dallas Cowboys as tight ends coach in 2006. At Cleveland, he joined the staff in 2018 as associate head coach and running backs coach. After Cleveland made a midseason coaching change, Kitchens was promoted to offensive coordinator. As OC, Kitchens was credited with Cleveland’s turnaround finish behind a strong rookie season from QB Baker Mayfield. On Jan. 12, 2019, Cleveland made Kitchens the team’s new head coach.

Kitchens himself confirmed the news to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The Browns have also officially announced the news.
