A one-time 5-star prospect who transferred from LSU in the spring announced he has committed to Alabama.

Saivion Smith, a cornerback, transferred to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College from LSU, where he played as a backup in 2016. He was expected to challenge for meaningful playing time at LSU this past regular season. Smith is from Bradenton, Fla. and played at IMG Academy where he was a decorated high school prospect.

Smith was a key figure in the 2016 class at LSU, which was ranked second in the country and second in the SEC as he was also an early enrollee that year.

Smith is 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and ranked the No. 1 junior college cornerback and the No. 4 overall junior college player, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Smith appeared in 10 games for LSU as a freshman, recorded four tackles and two pass breakups. In junior college, Smith had 31 tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
