Bad news for any Washington Redskins teams who bought Da’Ron Payne’s jersey in 2018: he’s switching to his old number for 2019.

The former Alabama defensive lineman will be sporting No. 94 in his second season. The news was shared via the team’s official Twitter account.

Payne, the No. 13 overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft, wore No. 95 in his rookie season with Washington. OLB Preston Smith wore No. 94 for the Redskins 2015-18. Smith, however, signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the Green Bay Packers in March, freeing up No. 94 for Payne to reclaim.

Payne certainly played well in No. 95. He started in all games for Washington at nose tackle, recording 56 tackles, including six for loss and five sacks as well as eight quarterback hits, three passes defended, a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
