Former Alabama linebacker Markail Benton has found a new team. Benton is now listed on Jacksonville State’s roster as was reported by AL.com and confirmed by a JSU spokesperson.

Benton’s status at UA was questioned when he was originally absent from the updated spring 2020 online roster. In an April call with reporters, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban revealed Benton was suspended from the team. In June, it was reported that Benton had entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Benton recorded 33 tackles in his Alabama career, including 19 tackles (1 TFL) and a pass breakup in 9 games last season.

A native of Phenix City, Alabama, Benton signed with the Crimson Tide as a member of the 2017 recruiting cycle. He was rated 4-stars and a top-200 overall prospect by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Benton is entering the redshirt junior season of his college football career.
