Former Alabama running back Ahmaad Galloway has died at the age of 42, according to WVTM.

Galloway was most recently an English teacher at a middle school in St. Louis. The school’s principal informed the news station that Galloway was found during a welfare check at his apartment.

“Ahmaad was always on time, very responsible, so we knew something might be wrong,” Compton-Drew Middle School principal Susan Reid said. “There wasn’t anything disrupted at Ahmaad’s apartment, so we are thinking that it could have been a medical issue. The medical examiner is working to find out how Ahmaad died.”

Galloway arrived at Alabama in 1999 and saw significant playing time in 2000 when Shawn Alexander departed for the NFL. Galloway amassed 1,540 and 13 touchdowns during his sophomore and junior seasons. His senior campaign in 2002 was limited due to a knee injury.

The Denver Broncos selected Galloway in the 7th round of the 2003 NFL Draft, and he also played for the then-San Diego Chargers and in the now-defunct NFL Europe.
