Former Alabama RB BJ Emmons is no longer with the Houston Texans. This news came only days after the Texans signed the 6-foot, 220-pound running back as a camp body to compete behind the likes of Marlon Mack, Rex Burkhead, and rookie Dameon Pierce, who the Texans drafted in the fourth round of his past NFL Draft.

Emmons is no stranger to the winding road high-level football players often have to take. He was a star recruit coming out of high school, ranked as a 4-star running back and the No. 2 overall running back in the 2016 class, according to 247Sports. Emmons signed with Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide despite offers from the likes of Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech, among others, and he rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown his first year in Tuscaloosa.

Emmons transferred to a JUCO college in 2017 and ultimately ended up at Florida Atlantic, where he rushed 88 times for 353 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2 seasons.

He was an undrafted free agent of the Seattle Seahawks in the wake of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars as a practice squad player.

From Alabama to FAU, to undrafted NFL free agent, to cut by the Texans, it’s been quite a road for the former star recruit.
