Former Alabama RB and current Seattle Seahawk Eddie Lacy has had an interesting ride in the NFL.

Lacy burst onto the scene with 1,178 rushing yards, 11 TDs, and a Pro-Bowl appearance in his rookie season. He eclipsed 1,100 yards during his second season as well, but a down year in 2015 brought up issues surrounding Lacy’s weight.

Since that time, Lacy has struggled to meet weight goals while becoming the target of many jokes and memes on social media. Lacy admitted he has noticed the jokes directed at him and regrets that battling his weight has become such a public issue.

Kevin Van Valkenburg with ESPN shared Lacy’s comments.

“I could pull up my Twitter right now and there would be a fat comment in there somewhere,” said Lacy. “Like I could tweet, ‘Today is a beautiful day!’ and someone would be like, ‘Oh yeah? You fat.’ I sit there and wonder: ‘What do you get out of that?'”

Adding more fuel for fans on social media is Lacy’s current contract with the Seahawks. Lacy signed a one-year deal with a number of incentives based around monthly weight goals. The biggest issue for Lacy is that his weigh-ins are usually made public.

“I hate that it has to be public,” Lacy explained. “Because it’s like, if you don’t make it, what happens? Clearly you don’t get the money, but whatever. I don’t really care about that. It’s just more the negative things that are going to come.”

Despite the harsh comments and jokes about his physique, Lacy says he is learning how to move on regardless of what others think.

“You just have to read it, get mad or however it makes you feel, and move on,” said Lacy. “I could be 225 and they’d still be like, ‘You’re still a fat piece of s — .'”

Lacy was effective in 2016 before ankle surgery shut him down after just five games. He has appeared in just one game for the Seahawks this season with just three yards on five carries.

Lacy rushed for 2,402 yards and 30 TDs over three seasons with Alabama. He was a part of two national championships during his time with the Crimson Tide.
