Former Alabama offensive lineman and postal employee Terrill Chatman was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury for stealing gift cards in the mail, federal authorities announced Thursday.

The 48-year-old faces faces a two-count indictment charge with theft of mail by a Postal Service employee for incidents that occured in September and October of 2015, according to a joint statement by U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and Special Agent in Charge Maximo Eamiguel, Southern Area Field Office, United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General.

Chatman is being accused of stealing $50 Publix gift card from the mail in Birmingham, Alabama in September 2015 and a $10 Walmart gift card the following month, according to the indictment. He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Chatman played right guard for Alabama and enjoyed his most successful season in 1989 when he was one of nine Tide players named to the All-SEC team. The Tide finished with a 10-2 record and held a share of the SEC Championship.
