Freddie Kitchens shares thoughts on Alabama's great QBs: 'I was not one of them'
When Freddie Kitchens played quarterback for Alabama from 1993 to 1997, starting for three of those seasons. He went 22-13 (unheard of by today’s Nick Saban standards) and led the Tide to three bowl games.
However, he doesn’t make much of his college career. This week, as his Cleveland Browns prepare to play the New York Jets, he was asked about Joe Namath.
As you can see in the video below, he had plenty of praise for Namath, an Alabama and Jets legend, and Ken Stabler, making sure to distance himself from that group:
“Him, Stabler. You know Alabama’s had some great quarterbacks,” Kitchens said. “I was not one of them. But they’ve had some great quarterbacks, you know?
“I know Kenny better than Joe, but I do know Joe. Both of them are great guys. But, yes, I kind of think of all of them. I wouldn’t say just Joe, but all of them. But he could throw it. Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.”
We’ll see on Monday night if Kitchens and the Browns can win in New York against Broadway Joe’s old squad.
