It appears Alabama’s basketball team is set to lose some depth on the frontcourt.

Veteran forward Galin Smith has entered the NCAA transfer portal and will be listed as a graduate transfer, which would make him eligible immediately at his next destination if he decided to transfer to another program. Matt Zenitz of AL.com was the first to report news of Smith’s entrance into the portal.

As always, it should be noted that just because Smith has entered the NCAA transfer portal, that doesn’t mean he cannot return to Alabama next season. Entering the transfer portal is simply the first step in the process and allows other coaching staffs to engage athletes regarding a transfer without breaking tampering rules.

Smith appeared in 31 games last season with the Crimson Tide and averaged 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He has appeared in a total of 94 games for Alabama thus far in his college career.

Following his junior season, Smith was named to the 2019 SEC Academic Honor Roll.
