There has been speculation for a few years now that Alabama coach Nick Saban may want to give the NFL another shot.

His tenure with the Miami Dolphins was a short one, but it wasn’t altogether unsuccessful. However, he came to Alabama in 2007 and has since won four more national championships, so it’s clear he made the right decision.

Now, though, there have been some rumblings and rumors surfacing about his potential interest in the open New York Giants coaching position. According to Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, Saban was interested in the Giants’ job before last season, but nothing materialized:

And here’s the Nick Saban truth. Before the Giants hired McAdoo in 2016, an intermediary from the Saban camp reached out to a top Giants official. Said Saban might be interested. There was contact between the two sides, and after a couple of days, the word came back: “His wife says she’s not moving from Alabama.” Saban may come back to the NFL one day, and the Giants would be an interesting place for him, and if they could get him, by all means they should. But I get the sense the Giants at the highest level have been through the Saban dance before and won’t be going through it again.

This account seems to confirm a story comedian Tom Arnold told Paul Finebaum last year.

At age 66, Saban may not want to uproot his life and start over again in New York, especially now that he once again has the Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see an interest expressed by both sides once again this time around, but it would be unexpected if serious talks begin to emerge.
