While college spring sports have been canceled for good following the outbreak of the coronavirus, some attention has already turned to fall sports, including football.

However, as a country, we have a long 2 months ahead of us before we can even begin to think about the potential of college football or not. Obviously, the virus will dictate those measures, and authorities and doctors will know more in the coming months.

For now, however, there’s a major sports void in the United States, including our beloved SEC football. Spring football hasn’t been completely ruled out yet, but there’s no organized practices until health officials give the clear signal.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne was asked about the 2020 Crimson Tide football season Thursday during a teleconference with reporters.

“I figured a couple of days ago when a lot of these postponements, cancellations, whatever they may be starting happening, that was going to be the next question asked,” Byrne said, via 247Sports.com. “I think we’re still too early to really have strong opinions about that. All of our focus has to be on the health and wellness of everyone involved. And if we as a country do our very best to minimize the spread of this virus, that gives us the best opportunity to return to normal as a country as soon as possible. And that’s what needs to be the focus right now.”

Byrne went on to add that the chances “aren’t great” to have any form of spring football at this point.

Alabama is scheduled to open up the 2020 season against the USC Trojans on September 5.
