ESPN’s Mike Greenberg posed a question on “Get Up” on Wednesday morning that is a popular topic this time of year.

Could Alabama afford a close loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game and still make the College Football Playoff with 2 losses?

“Yes,” said Heather Dinich, ESPN’s Playoff reporter. “That’s what I’m reading from this because if they didn’t drop after that performance, it’s clear that the committee loves Alabama. So if they do play a close game, I’m talking about an instant thriller, overtime classic, whatever you want to call it. Because if it’s not a close game, it is going to be extremely hard for the committee to justify a 2-loss Bama that doesn’t win the SEC.”

The committee kept Alabama at No. 2 despite a lackluster performance against LSU last week.

The problem is that Alabama doesn’t have a signature win, and Dinich said that Oregon has a signature victory, Oklahoma can get it down the stretch, and Ohio State has great chances at getting one.

Meanwhile, David Pollack said Georgia would not want to play Alabama, and Paul Finebaum, also in the segment, said Alabama is the No. 2 team in the country, “even with all their flaws. It’s not by much, and I think we’re really looking at Alabama, they have a quality loss now. That game against Texas A&M a month ago looked terrible, now Texas A&M is right outside the top 10. That helps Alabama.”
