At the 2020 NFL Combine recently, Alabama WR Henry Ruggs III was the fastest player, clocking a 40-yard dash time of 4.27 seconds.

However, he (and many others) thought he could run even faster, and if you look at some of his game film, that’s certainly within the realm of possibility.

On SiriusXM radio this week, Ruggs admitted he was a bit disappointed in his 40-yard dash time (via Pro Football Talk):

“I actually was a little disappointed,” Ruggs said. “Just a lot of technical things I did during the run. . . . But I’m still glad to be known as one of the fastest ever.

“After the re-start I was thinking a lot and didn’t really come out of my start like I wanted to, didn’t really come out fluid, and didn’t really push on my first two steps. Then, running with my hands closed kind of tensed me up so I couldn’t really open up like I wanted to.”

Ruggs is certainly one of the most talented and fastest receivers in the draft class. He’s currently being projected as a Round 1 pick.

How will his speed translate to the NFL? Hopefully we’ll find out this fall.
