The most remarkable aspect of coach Nick Saban’s tenure at Alabama may not be the three national titles or the five consecutive No. 1 recruiting classes.

Fueled by “The Process” and an incessant drive to strive for perfection with every detail, Saban’s biggest accomplishment may be the unmatched consistency he’s achieved.

Alabama has remained ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press Top 25 since the second-to-last poll of 2010 — until now. (Bama fell to No. 12 on Sunday.)

Due to a 43-37 home loss to Ole Miss, Alabama (2-1, 0-1) has tumbled out of the top 10 for the first time in almost five years.

The Crimson Tide’s long run among the nation’s 10 best teams started with a 49-7 win against Michigan State on Jan. 1, 2011, in the Citrus Bowl. Since that game, Alabama carries a record of 50-7, including back-to-back losses to Ole Miss.

The Coaches Poll also dropped Alabama from No. 2 to No. 12 following the loss, behind Ole Miss, Georgia and LSU.

Things don’t get much easier for the Tide, which must face four more currently-ranked teams, including the Bulldogs and Tigers. Beat UGA in two weeks, though, and Alabama will be right back in the top 10 as well as the College Football Playoff chase. Saban’s team followed a similar path last year after an early-season loss in Oxford.

Alabama’s streak of 69 consecutive weeks in the AP top 10 is the seventh-longest in college football history. Miami (Fla.) owns the longest streak at 137 weeks, accomplished between 1985 and 1993. The Tide’s streak also fell 10 weeks short of the one that Pete Carroll produced as the coach of the USC Trojans in the mid-2000s.
